UV adhesives, also known as instant adhesives or photo-curable adhesives
UV adhesives, also known as instant adhesives or photo-curable adhesives, are liquid resins that rapidly solidify upon exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation. UV adhesives have a wide range of applications, including use as adhesives, inks, and coatings.
UV Adhesive Curing Principle
UV adhesives are formulated from prepolymers, active monomers, photoinitiators (photosensitizers), cross-linking agents, and other materials. Before UV exposure, they are typically viscous liquids. When exposed to UV light, the bonds in the photoinitiator absorb energy and break, forming active free radicals. These free radicals initiate monomer polymerization and cross-linking reactions, causing the UV adhesive to transform from a liquid to a solid state within seconds. This is the process of resin polymerization and formation.
Advantages of UV Curing
Safe: Made with low-toxicity acrylates and other materials; solvent-free; no VOC emissions; environmentally friendly.
Economical: Compared to thermal curing, UV curing has higher energy efficiency, saving up to 90% of energy; Fast: Curing speed is fast, with curing completed in a few seconds to tens of seconds, which is beneficial for automated production lines and improves labor productivity;
Easy to use: Simple equipment and easy to use, suitable for both large-scale factory production and small-scale home use;
Compatible: Good adhesion to materials, can be combined with materials sensitive to temperature and humidity;
Adjustable: The molecular weight and degree of cross-linking of the resin can be adjusted through the raw materials and light irradiation.
Applications of UV Curable Adhesives
UV-cured products are very common in life, but often overlooked. Here are some examples of UV adhesive applications:
Wood furniture surface treatment
Printed circuit board coating
Jewelry adhesive
Photo-cured phone screen protector
