Super glue instantly transforms from liquid to solid after application
Super glue instantly transforms from liquid to solid after application, a process that takes only a few seconds. However, since super glue is stored in small bottles, the glue poured out will solidify instantly. Given this, will the glue inside the bottle also solidify upon opening, since it's also exposed to air?
Moisture triggers the polymerization of ethyl cyanoacrylate. Since there is air in the bottle, why is it certain that no solidification occurs?
During production, a small amount of acid is usually added to super glue to prevent the polymerization of ethyl cyanoacrylate. Moreover, there is not much air in the bottle containing the super glue, insufficient for moisture to evaporate, thus the super glue will not solidify.
Even if there is moisture inside, it only comes into contact with the surface of the cyanoacrylate; penetration is difficult. However, prolonged exposure to moisture and air, even without solidification, will compromise its adhesive properties. Therefore, super glue should be sealed immediately after use.
